Stephenville bull rider goes 3 for 3 to win $27,000 in Hobbs

Braidy Randolf wins Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding and a large check in Hobbs, NM

Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding

Capturing his first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding title Braidy Randolph of Stephenville, Texas battled fellow Texan Hudson Bolton of Milan on a chilly Saturday night at the Lea County Events Center in Hobbs, New Mexico. Randolph edged out Bolton by half a point as the two young riders finished with for 3 for 3 perfect night. But in the end its the Shoot Out round highest score of 91.5 that earned Randolph the title of Tuff Hedeman Hobbs 2024 Champion.

4-time World Champion Tuff Hedeman had this to say about the Texas cowboy who had a perfect night at his Hobbs event.

“The competition was a nail biter with 19 qualified rides and several within striking distance of the 8 second whistle as the leader board changed with each round. The three round format is tough both mentally and physically and three bulls back to back is challenging and tiring, you have to be in shape and stay strong and focused and Randolph was the best bull rider tonight, thrilling the fans and keeping them entertained throughout the night.”

Bringing the fans to their feet in the final Shoot Out round, Randolf earned the championship title with a 91.5 ride score aboard to pick up the $26,137.50 check that accompanied the title of his first Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding.

The bull riders were on their game  with 14 qualified rides in round one ending in Hagen Braswell and NFR veteran Tyler Bingham splitting the  lead with 89.5 points aboard Flying Crazy from bucking bull partners 5S Bulls and Silo Pros. Bingham earned his points on -85 Chan Man from Rawson Bucking Bulls. Randolph posed his ride score of 88 on 781 Chigger of Mason Bucking Bulls.

Randolph fought back to take the lead winning the Semifinal round which pitted  the top 10 qualified rides from round one. Top Score from Randolph with an 88 followed by Hudson Bolton and Hayes Weight with and 87 and 85 respectively.. The four average scores  move to the winner take all Shoot Out Round referred to as the final four.

Hudson Bolton on Let’s Gamble of Mike Rawson Bucking Bulls - the $20,000 win and Bull Team Champion of Hobbs

With three qualified rides on two bulls the top 4 average scores would advance to the Shoot Out round and one rider on two scores.

With Tuff Hedeman assisting the cowboys select their Shoot Out bulls the round was set.

Randolf had first choice and selected his bull with Hedeman’s help. His great choice earned him a 91.5 ride to edge out Hudson Bolton who was 91 points. In Tuff Hedeman’s event format, the highest qualified ride score in the final four shoot out round is all that is needed to win the event. With the bull bucking into his hand, Randolph’s prediction of the bull fitting him was obvious from the gate pull as he did more than just ride. Randolph thrilled the crowd with his 91.5 ride to win his first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding buckle.

Tuff Hedeman Taps 727 Soldier Boy for 10K Bounty Bull in Huron

Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair

HURON, South Dakota – (August 29, 2023) - Four-time World Champion bull rider and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, Tuff Hedeman, announced today he has selected Jeff Harris’s 727 Soldier Boy for the Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Bounty Bull on night one of Wednesday night's competition of the Annual Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron.

The Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Tour rolls into town this week unloading top-ranked buckets pitted against 24 of the country’s elite bull riders to kick off the South Dakota State Fair at 8 pm on August 30, 2023, at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.

Tuff Hedeman announced today that An eight-second ride aboard the famed Texas bucking bull Soldier Boy on Wednesday night will earn the top-scoring bull rider in Wednesday night's performance a $10,000 paycheck that Tuff Hedeman and Red Wilk are anxious to award to the bull rider who hears the whistle while still on this famed bucker's back.

Thursday night's lineup will feature more rounds where fans will see their favorite riders challenge as many as three bulls in one night. As the bull riders progress each earning money for their qualified rides, the final four-man Shoot Out round determines the night’s winner.

The action gets underway at 8 p.m. with 24 bull riders doing their best to stay on for eight seconds.

In March, 727 was the winning ride for John Crimber as he rode the six-year-old bucker for 91.5 points to win the Tuff Hedeman Las Vegas Shoot Out. Can he repeat it for the South Dakota fans? Not only is Soldier Boy worth coming out to the Fairgrounds to see, but Crimber is the second-generation bull rider and son of retired PBR superstar bull rider, Paulo Crimber.

Second generation bull rider John Crimber celebrates his winning ride on 727 Solider Boy in Las Vegas

In livestock terms one would describe Solider Boy as sired by Sheperd Hills stock and Page breeding. Jeff Harris describes him as a little bull with a big heart.

Jeff Harris acquired this West Texas-born and raised bull as a fixer upper from the competitive bucking bulls circuit of young bulls. "He bucks really hard and is just an honest bucker. If the rider doesn't get out of shape you will win some money when you hear the whistle because the longer you ride him the harder he bucks," said Harris who already has his prized bucker resting in Huron for the big night.

"If you are left-handed, he usually goes to the left and you might have a better chance of staying on, but you better give it 110 percent because 727 will be at 110% every trip," added Harris.

The best advice from the bull riders who have attempted 727 is to stay small and stay as close to him as possible, if you are out of shape at all you won't ride him.

Who does Jeff Harris think might have a shot, Why of course John Crimber?

The Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash will be held at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds, 890 3rd Street SW, Huron, SD 57530. Tickets are available for adults and youth by calling 866-605-FAIR, or online at www.sdstatefair.com. Photo credit Todd Brewer.

Editor's Notes: The rider with the highest average score on Wednesday night will be the bull rider to advance to attempt the Bounty Bull. If he rides him for 8 seconds he will be awarded a $10,000 check from Tuff Hedeman.

Capturing his first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding title, 18-year-old John Crimber, was the only rider to go 3 for 3 in front of a standing-room-only crowd at the Las Vegas Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding at the South Point Arena. Son of bull riding superstar veteran, Paulo Crimber, John Crimber proved his bull riding roots are strong. Earning the only qualified score, 90.5 points, on Jeff Harris 727 Soldier Boy, he wins the Shoot Out round and the championship.

2nd Generation bull rider, Crimber, son of bull riding great Paulo Crimber is not intimidated and enjoys the fans and crowds.

With 14 qualified rides in three rounds, Crimber of Decatur, Texas was 269 points on three bulls. The 2022 National High School World Champion Bull Rider thrilled the crowd with the only qualified ride in the Shoot Out Round.  The young bull rider took home a $21,000  check wrapped around his first Tuff Hedeman event championship buckle.

The Decatur, Texas cowboy had this to say about his perfect night in what he called the perfect atmosphere at the South Point in Las Vegas.

“Everybody was screaming, it was a loud packed house here tonight and that really pumped me up even more. The crowd does not make me nervous at all, just the opposite. I started going to Tuff’s events last year and there are always good bulls and even better crowds,” said Crimber.

“I had seen my shoot-out bull before but never been on him, I got to see a video and I knew I would pick him if I could and would be a lot of points on him.”

Round One

10 bull riders opened the event in round one with qualified rides. Honeyville, Utah cowboy Kate Madson took the early event lead with a 90.5 ride on 225 It’s a Texas Thang (Hawkins). Caden Bunch tied Madsen with 90.5 followed by Crimber, Levi Gray, and the only veteran of the round, Tyler Bingham with 88.5 to round out the top 5 of the round.

“I had seen in him before and he looked like he’s fun to ride and I knew if I stayed on I would be a lot of points on him. It worked out and I went 89.5 and I finished third,” added Crimber.

With the bull, power kicked up a notch the bulls were in control with only 3 qualified rides allowed in the round. Kaiden Loud was the first to score 87.5 on Rawson’s Slamma Jamma. Crimber was a solid 88 on Rafter JML‘s Party Time, but it was Caden Bunch who took the lead again winning the second round with an 89 on G Moves of Harris Bucking Bulls.

“I never scene this bull, but I saw a video and he was supposed to be around the right and good, he was hard to ride and I knew I had to be correct to get it done, but then he went out there one and did the exact opposite of the video and I just had to stay in the middle and let him buck under me -  all the way to the buzzer, “ said Crimber.

SHOOT OUT ROUND

The Four-man final round was led by Caden Bunch who had the lead heading into the final round, but all scores are dropped and the highest score wins in Hedeman’s sudden death format. Joining him were John Crimber, Kaiden Loud and Kate Madsen. Spurring his way to the top of the leaderboard was John Crimber who made his 90.75 victory ride look easy. The rookie had this to say accepting the buckle and check.

Crimber’s winning ride on Harris Bucking Bulls 727 Soldier Boy

“This event was truly amazing and I want to thank Tuff and the South Point and all the great bull riding and Nascar fans here tonight - this was such a great event and you all helped me all the way tonight, thank you so much, it means alot.”

NFR qualifier, former THBR Huron Champion Trey Holston arrives in El Paso as the #1 ranked bull rider in the PRCA world standings

EL PASO, Texas – (Feb. 4, 2023) – Today, Four-time World Champion Bull Rider and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, Tuff Hedeman, announced the current number 1 ranked bull rider of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Trey Holston of Fort Scott, Kansas, will be in El Paso on Saturday night at the County Coliseum to compete. The annual bucking bull blowout is the same classic event of Hedeman's held in previous years in February and is expected to sell out as always.

Known for cultivating new talent in the bull riding arena, Hedeman’s competitors are proven professionals at the top of their careers and the challengers are the young guns of 2023 taking them on.

"It's exciting to bring these extreme athletes to the loyal bull riding fans in El Paso. 3 of the top 5 ranked PRCA riders and 11 National Finals Rodeo qualifiers. Holston is a former College and High School National Champion and will compete well at this level of pro event," said Hedeman.

The night's excitement will culminate as the final four bull riders will get a third opportunity to ride for cash.

18-year old Kaiden Loud wins the average title at Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding

2022 Texas High School Bull Riding Champion, Kaiden Loud, wins first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding title in Hobbs

Capturing his first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding title, 2022 Texas State Bull Riding Champion Kaiden Loud of Kaufman, Texas, earned the 2023 Hobbs event with 175.75 points on two qualified rides. He left New Mexico on Saturday night with a championship buckle. Still, the $38,000 in prize money he left on the arena floor of the Lea County Events Center will probably be the memory he takes to the next competition.

The annual fan-favorite event kept the fans on the edge of their seats with only 10 qualified rides during the two-hour event. The bulls were the superstars as they bucked off 25 riders including all four Shoot Out Round qualifiers. Tuff Hedeman events pay on qualified rides so when no one hears the whistle in the Shoot Out round while still aboard, Tuff Hedeman events add a prize to the next Tuff Hedeman bull riding event scheduled for February 4th in El Paso, Texas.

The 18-year-old Texas Cowboy rode 2 of his 3 bulls in Hobbs, but in Tuff Hedeman's sudden death event format, you have to earn the highest-scored qualified ride in the final round to take home the bulk of the prize money.

Fans saw the leaderboard change with each round with only 2 riders going 2 for 2.

"Three rounds are challenging with three bulls back-to-back, you have to stay strong mentally and physically to get the win," said Hedeman about his signature format.

ROUND ONE

With 7 qualified rides in round one, NFR qualifier Koby Radley took the lead with 88.5 on Danny Mason's Ink Spot. Caden Bunch was close behind with 88 points on T & G's Hard and Often. Wacey Schalla was 87.25 followed by Kaiden Loud with 86.75. Maverick Potter, Riker Carter, and Marco Juarez posted scores and would advance to the Semifinal round.

SEMIFINALS

The Semifinal round pitted the 7 qualified scores with 3 advancing on time-ridden. Andy Guzman led the round and the highest earned score of 89 points on Universal Pro Rodeo's Outer Limits. Loud matched that with 89 on Burruss's Whamo. Caiden Bunch rode his second bull for 86.25 and a spot in the final four to stay in the hunt for a share of the $40,00 prize.

SHOOT OUT ROUND

With over $30,000 on the line in Hobbs, the top ride score in the Shoot Out round was set to earn the bulk of that big check. With two qualified rides on two bulls, Loud and Bunch advanced to the top spots and picked their bulls. Guzman and Radley advanced on one score each. Each would earn $1,000 for their efforts but the payout would end when the bulls bucked off each one of Shoot Out round cowboys.

BULL TEAM

Superstars at Hobbs put on a show of who's who in the back pens. The top team, Richardson Land and Cattle Company's bulls cleared the field by 3 points and outperformed the 11 teams entered in the Hobbs Bull Team competition. Richardson earned $22,000 in prize money by bucking off three cowboys, but his bulls bucked hard and his rank scores earned the title and the win.

Second place was Danny Mason's trio of buckers with 276.53 points and one qualified ride from Wacey Schalls. Less than one point behind Mason was veteran bull team owner Lyndal Hurst with 275.49 and no rider making the 8-second whistle but solid bull scores carried him to the pay window.

HOBBS RESULTS

1, Kaiden Loud, Kaufman, TX, 175.75 points on 2 bulls, $2,250.00. 2, Caden Bunch, Tahlequah, OK174.25 pts on 2, $2,250. 3, Andy Guzman, Oakdale, CA, 89 pts on 1, $1,750. 4, Koby Radley, Montpelier, LA, 88.25 pts on 1, $1500.

Tuff Hedeman Taps 410 Whiskey for $10,000 Bounty Bull in Huron

410 Whiskey owned by Burruss Bucking Bulls and Smith Pro Rodeo

Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair

Four-time World Champion bull rider, and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, Tuff Hedeman, announced today he selected the unridden 410 Whiskey as the Bounty Bull for night one of the Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. Hedeman and his crew are busy making final arrangements for the annual Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash, including waiting on the arrival of the highly anticipated "bounty bull."

Tuff Hedeman brings to town 40 of the best bull riders and bulls in the country each year for this legendary annual event. 410 Whiskey, owned by Burruss Bucking Bulls of Bradford, Arkansas, arrives with a bounty bonus check of $10,000 that will be awarded to one lucky professional bull rider if he can stay on him 8 seconds. Sounds easy, right? Well, keep reading.

The 1,800 pound five-year-old bucking bulls sport big horns and a white star on his face. He has not been ridden in over a year and half on the rodeo and professional bull riding circuits. When he has been ridden it’s been the who’s who of bull riders including two world champions, 2-time PBR World Champ J.B. Mauney and PRCA World Champ Stetson Wright as well as 4-time NFR qualifier, Jeff Askey.

“What makes him tough to ride is he is a big strong bucker and smart, he feels the rider getting comfortable or a good seat as we say and you better be ready because he reverses the other way, said Scott Burress, who trains, travels, and flanks the prize bucker for Burrus Bucking Bulls and Stace Smith Pro Rodeo company. “He used to buck in the same pattern but now he might go right, and he might go left, he’s rideable but you never know how he’s coming out of the chute,” added Burruss.

If you are the lucky rider with the highest score from Thursday nights long round, you will be pitted against 410 Whiskey to attempt to collect the $10,000 bonus check from Tuff Hedeman.

Friday night’s lineup will follow the tour’s three-round tournament-style format, which is popular with fans as it allows them to see their favorite riders challenge as many as three bulls in one night. As the bull riders progress, each earning money for their qualified rides, the final four-man Shoot Out round determines the winner and receives the bulk of the prize money.

The Red Wilk Construction Tuff Hedeman Bull Bash presented by the South Dakota State Fair doors open both nights at 6 pm with the action getting underway at 8.

The Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash will be held at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds, 890 3rd St SW, Huron, SD 57530.  Tickets are $20 for adults and are available by calling 866-605-FAIR, or online www.sdstatefair.com. The four-man Shoot Out was now set with the four pros who all rode their bulls in both preliminary rounds, but scores are dropped and the Shoot Out round is a winner take all round for the event championship title and the bulk of the prize money.

After careful consultation with Hedeman, the riders selected their bulls in order of top average points earned thus far.  DJ LaFleur was first up and down on Jeff Harris 181 Baby Boy. Yeary suspected 404B American Psycho was a misfit but gave it a large effort before losing to Burruss’s rank bull.  Richardson selected 472 Underdog, a bull he had been on before,  but the bull went two for two against and won the battle. Jarboe who had pick of the pool selected 419 Pearl Snap (Burruss), but came down shy of the buz$18,500zer.

Bullfighters Beau Scheuth (front) and Bryce Redo (top) worked overtime to get Travis Wimberly to safety after a rough dismount.

BULLTEAM

Burruss Bucking Bulls led the bull team results in El Paso by 1.09 points over Universal Pro Rodeo & McMahon bull team. With 2 qualified rides, 505 Outer Limits was the anchor of the team with Jarboe’s 89.25 points in the Semifinal round. Bull Score honors from this team went to 546 Evil Intentions with an 88.75 bull score. Burruss had this to say about his team.

“51 Red Armour, who we brought here to this arena and event for the first time three years ago, was the best bucker tonight, our NFR bull 546 went right when he usually goes left so that was interesting, 505 that Roscoe got on was good too. I was happy to get the win, everyone brings good bulls, and the competition is always tough,” said Burruss.

McCown Goes 3-for-3 to win Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding

Parker McCown, Montgomery, Texas, riding Outer Limits for 90.75 score and the win at the season opener of the Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Tour. in Hobbs, NM.

Capturing his first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding title, National Finals Rodeo qualifier, Parker McCown was the only bull rider to go 3 for 3 in the Lea County Events Center on a chilly Saturday night in Hobbs, New Mexico.

The Montgomery, Texas cowboy had this to say about his perfect night in Hobbs.

"This was my first Tuff Hedeman win. I've been in several final fours but have never had the opportunity to win one," said Texas cowboy.

Tuff Hedeman welcomes NFR qualifier Parker McCown to the season opener of the Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding tour in Hobbs, NM

The competition was a nail-biter with 18 qualified rides and several within striking distance of the 8-second whistle as the leader board changed with each round.

"The 3 rounds are tough but you feel victorious at the end, three bulls back to back is tiring and takes a toll on your mental and physical side, you have to stay strong and keep the faith and I was blessed to get the win," added a humble McCown.

Wearing Rock N Roll Denim Jeans, McCown picked up the additional $2,000 bonus from Panhandle while outlasting 23 of his peers through the grueling three rounds of competition. Bringing the fans to their feet in the final Shoot Out round, McCown earned the championship title a 90.75 ride score aboard _to win to the $18, 250 price check that accompanied the title of the Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding.

After being sidelined for six months with a right shoulder injury at his first National Finals Rodeo in 2020, bull rider Parker McCown is headed in the right direction since his return to bull riding competition in the summer of 2021.

With 11 qualified rides in round one and 4 more riding for 7 seconds plus, Maverick Potter took the lead with an 89.75 aboard 638 Chanler's Mule from Universal Pro Rodeo. McCown started his night with an 88.5 on #51 Red Armor (Burruss Bucking Bulls). McCown shared the 88.5 score with NFR qualifier Tim Bingham, Kase Hitt, and Ouncie Michell. Tyler Kipps, Trey Kimzey, Riggin Shippy, Cole Fischer, John Crimber, and Jeff Lambert rounded out the qualified rides in round one to advance to the second round of the tournament-style format.

Maverick Potter, round 1 winner aboard Chanler’s Mule

The Semifinal round pitted the top 11 qualified rides from round one and three additional riders, Tyce Willis, Colton Byrum, and Pablo Belmares advanced on time ridden for another bull and a shot to make it to the final four round and stay in the hunt for a share of the $30,000..

The bull riders were on their game riding six in the semifinal round with McCown leading the pack with 89 points aboard #402 East Side from T & G Bucking Bulls. Ouncie Michel was second with an 87.75 followed by Maverick Potter's 87.5. Cole Fischer, John Crimber, and Tim Bingham rounded out the scores with 85.25, and a pair of 84.5's respectively.

With six qualified rides on two bulls, the top 4 average scores would advance to the Shoot Out round. McCown edged out Potter by half a point for the number one pick of bulls with 177.5 on two. He selected #505 Outer Limits.

"I'd seen that bull several times at rodeos and I knew he would probably fit me. He was always pretty showy and up and under himself and that's what I like," said McCown about his selection.

Maverick Potter, ,Ounzie Mitchell, and Tim Bingham rounded out the final four but each bucked off before the whistle leaving McCown left to ride. In Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding format, a qualified ride score was all that was needed to win the event. With the bull bucking into his hand, Parker's prediction of the bull fitting him was obvious from the gate pull as he did more than just ride, thrilled the crowd with his 90.5 ride to win his first Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding.

Hedeman Taps 646 RIP as Bounty Bull in Huron

Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair

Since February 11, a bull branded 646 Rip has not been conquered for 8 seconds, in fact not one cowboy has made it past 4 seconds while still on his back.  If you are the lucky rider Wednesday night with the highest score you will be pitted against RIP to attempt to collect the $10,000 bonus check from Four-time World Champion bull rider, Tuff Hedeman.

Hedeman announced today the selection of the unridden RIP as the $10,000 Bounty or bonus bull for the first night’s performance at the opening grandstand event, the Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash.

Rip, a resident of Arkansas is owned and trained by Scott Burruss Bucking Bulls and is already lying in wait at the Fairgrounds in Huron resting for his South Dakota debut on Wednesday night.

Described by Tuff Hedeman as “A big strong yellow brindle with horns that as of today, has never been ridden.”

This young bull from Scott Burruss’s collection denied many cowboys of their dreams in 2021 including Jordan Spears at   Cheyenne Frontier Days, JC  Mortensen at Lovington, New Mexico, and Jordan Spears in  Gladewater.  Not smooth but looks rideable.

He has bucked off 12 straight cowboys in PRCA competition and a host of others in non-sanctioned events.
